Snoring is a common condition that can affect individuals of all ages
Snoring occurs when the airway becomes partially restricted. As air moves through this narrowed space, the soft tissues in the throat vibrate, creating the sound associated with snoring.
In general, the more limited the airflow, the louder the snoring tends to be. While often harmless, it may disrupt sleep quality and indicate an underlying issue with airflow during rest.
Several factors can contribute to airway restriction, including:
- Swelling or irritation of tissues in the nose, mouth, or throat (such as enlarged tonsils)
- Nasal congestion from colds, sinus issues, or allergies
- Reduced muscle tone, which may occur with age or lower fitness levels
- Excess weight that places additional pressure on the airway
- Certain medications that relax throat muscles
If snoring is affecting your sleep or quality of life, our team can help evaluate your symptoms and recommend personalized solutions.
