Snoring is a widespread condition that can affect people of any age or gender

It happens when the airway becomes partially obstructed, forcing air through a narrowed passage and causing the soft palate and surrounding throat tissues to vibrate.

The more restricted the airway becomes, the louder the snoring tends to be. In many cases, a custom snore guard that keeps the airway open and unobstructed during sleep can significantly reduce or eliminate snoring.

Common contributors to airway restriction include inflammation or swelling of the tissues in the mouth, nose, or throat such as the tonsils; congestion from colds or allergies that blocks nasal passages; reduced muscle tone from aging or low activity levels; excess weight that narrows the airway from the outside; and medications that cause the throat muscles to relax.
